Kabul Press?: Poetry reading; A gathering of human rights activists and civil society members, following a protest of Daikondi province residents against discrimination. They assembled in front of the Afghan Parliament in support of a Hazara student hunger strike against racial discrimination at Kabul University. It was the fifth day of protest as protesters continue their strike.
In another part of the city, Mullah Omar supporters have been demonstrating against the proposed law on Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW). They carried a Taliban flag and chanted against democracy, a civil society and women’s rights. Following Mullah Omar’s protest today, Taliban fighters attacked civilian centers.
Kabul is a paradox these days. On the one hand, people are dying for democracy and human rights, and on the other, Mullah Omar’s supporters and Taliban fighters attack civilians and human rights.
