The committee for the defense of Kamran Mir Hazar is still worried about the security of the Editor of the independent website KabulPress.org and journalist for the Internews’ funded Radio Salam Watandar. We ask the above mentioned organizations to do everything they can to reestablish full freedom of movement for Kamran Mir Hazar.

Kamran Mir Hazar, was arrested illegally by Afghan secret police NDS on July 4th 2007. He was released five days later after following considerable pressure from Afghan and international organizations for his immediate release. During his detention Kamran Mir Hazar did not eat for 96 hours as a sign of protest against the conditions of his detention. The committee of defense for Kamran Mir Hazar held press conferences during his detention and immediately after his release, asking the Afghan secret police to end its illegal practices.

Even though the case of Kamran Mir Hazar is now legally to be followed by the Afghan Media commission – this was decided upon by attorney general Jabar Sabet in accordance with the committee for the defense of Kamran Mir Hazar – Afghan security authorities still interfere in the case. Since his release it seems that members of Afghan secret police or other unknown people are looking for him. These persons are permanently posted in front of and around the Internews office in Karte Seh , seat of Radio Salam Watandar. We fear that Kamran Mir Hazar could be picked up by these persons any time he leaves the office compound, in which he and his wife have now been forced to stay for a week already.

The committee of defense for Kamran Mir Hazar includes independent journalists and members of the Afghan civil society.
